When it comes to producing and delivering film-based packaging solutions for both food and industrial products, BetaPack are the specialists. We have been doing this for more than 20 years. Our mission is always to help our customers find the best possible solution – and that is exactly what we have done for Dansand.
In 2020, Dansand came to us in search of a more sustainable alternative to the conventional laminated plastic film they had been using to package dried quartz sand – without compromising on quality. Plastic offers many advantages when it comes to effective product protection and durability, but it also has an environmental impact.
Dansand therefore set an ambition to reduce the use of virgin laminated plastic film in their packaging. However, it was essential that the new film could meet the same durability and quality requirements as the conventional material – otherwise, the environmental gain would be lost.
Creating a type of packaging that meets durability and quality requirements while also addressing sustainability aspects can be a challenge – but it is by no means impossible.
“In collaboration with Dansand, we have developed a film that is 100% recyclable while also containing 30% already recycled raw materials. These recycled materials come from discarded films and raw materials from our own production here at BetaPack. In the future, we also aim to use external waste – meaning plastic that we source from others and reuse in our own products” explains Jonas Krog Toft, Sales Manager at BetaPack.
For Dansand, the use of recycled raw materials has resulted in a reduction of virgin materials by 547,763 meters of film, equivalent to 41,309 kg – a reduction that speaks for itself.
The introduction of the new laminated film has been seamless for Dansand. Not only has the consumption of virgin materials been reduced, but customers, transporters, and Dansand themselves continue to experience the same high quality as before.
The positive experience has encouraged Dansand to raise their ambitions to the next level. As part of this journey, the first Dansand bags made with 50% recycled laminated plastic film have now been tested. This step is just the beginning toward increasing the amount of recycled material in Dansand’s film while also boosting the overall use of recycled film.
“It is clearly our ambition to increase the share of recycled materials in the film we use. But it is also extremely important that the product we send to the market maintains our usual high quality. That’s why additional tests are needed, and we are already in dialogue with BetaPack about this” continues Søren Torp Madsen.
At BetaPack, we are committed to supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). That’s why we are especially proud of our strong collaboration with Dansand – and fortunately, they share that feeling.
