Skou Gruppen, BetaPack and STARK Collaborate on Construction Project at Bispebjerg

Written by BetaPack A/S | 27.03.25

Skou Gruppen is currently constructing the new Bispebjerg Education Centre in a historic area adjacent to Bispebjerg Hospital. The 2,450 square metre building is designed to create an inspiring environment for future learning and research. In collaboration with BBP Arkitekter and consulting engineers Dominia, Skou Gruppen has chosen to combine modern construction techniques with sustainable materials and a traditional architectural style.

CLT Elements and the Use of Solitex Adhero Visto Membrane

A key feature of the project is the use of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) elements, which play a vital role in the construction. Skou Gruppen opted for CLT elements due to their strength, sustainability, and alignment with the project's overall vision of reducing concrete usage and promoting wood as a primary building material. A total of 600 CLT elements have been installed in the new education centre. To protect them from the elements, Skou Gruppen has used Solitex Adhero Visto from German manufacturer pro clima – a diffusion-open membrane supplied through a partnership between BetaPack and STARK.

Why Solitex Adhero Visto Was Chosen

Skou Gruppen’s project manager, Emil Vitus Jensen, explains why Solitex Adhero Visto was the preferred choice for this project:

Emil also emphasizes that the membrane is easy to work with and extremely durable—this was crucial, as there is heavy foot traffic on the horizontal surfaces during the build.

Sustainability and collaboration

Although the choice of Solitex Adhero Visto was primarily based on its functional properties, Skou Gruppen is well aware of the product’s sustainable benefits. They have taken an important step towards more sustainable construction with this project, reducing concrete use, employing timber and re-using bricks from a former cemetery wall at Bispebjerg.

A key element in the project was the protected trees and buildings at the Bispebjerg site, which meant scaffolding could not be placed on the construction site. It was therefore essential that the CLT elements could stand independently—further reinforcing the need for the protection that Solitex Adhero Visto offers.

The collaboration between Skou Gruppen, BetaPack and STARK has been a success in the construction of the Bispebjerg Education Centre. By choosing Solitex Adhero Visto, Skou Gruppen has secured optimal protection of the load-bearing timber structures while simultaneously taking steps toward a more sustainable future. With this project, Skou Gruppen sets the example for how modern construction can be combined with respect for historic surroundings and sustainability.
