Innovative packaging solutions for the pet food industry

Since 1997, United Petfood Group (UPG) has been one of the leading companies in the pet food industry in Scandinavia. With two factories located in Hasselager and Ølgod, the company produces large volumes of feed annually for dogs, cats, and garden birds.

Since mid-2022, BetaPack has been supplying various packaging solutions to UPG, acting as a close partner in the development of new solutions.

A challenge at UPG kickstarted the collaboration

The partnership between BetaPack and UPG began somewhat coincidentally with a challenge that UPG was unable to solve with their existing supplier.

“We had a challenge with one of our cardboard displays, which we struggled to solve. BetaPack stepped in and came up with a really good solution – and that became the starting point of a collaboration that has continued to grow ever since. For us, it is a great advantage to have a Danish supplier, but also one that can deliver flexible solutions. And with BetaPack, we can always rely on them to solve our challenges quickly and efficiently.”

One supplier, one contact, one complete solution

Today, BetaPack delivers packaging solutions in paper, cardboard, and film to UPG. Having everything gathered in one place is a major advantage – both in terms of quality, flexibility, and the further development of solutions.

“With BetaPack as our supplier, we only need one point of contact, which makes things both easy and highly efficient. As a private label producer, we need the assurance of having packaging in stock and reasonable delivery times. That used to be a challenge, but BetaPack has solved it – even at a competitive level and with guaranteed high quality. At the same time, it is clear that BetaPack is on our side when we face tight deadlines or last-minute changes, and that is truly valuable for us” continues Jacob Gram Stjernholm.

Guaranteed flexibility and innovation – from design to finished product

So far, the collaboration between BetaPack and UPG has involved many different projects, where especially the development and integration of new designs – combined with a flexible approach – have proven to be of great value for UPG.

“With BetaPack, we get a flexible solution – even when it comes to full-print design changes with images and colors, which are usually very costly. For example, if one of our customers wants to run a spontaneous campaign, we can quickly adjust the design and order the required amount of packaging. Or if we need a label for a bucket that also has to work as a full-print cardboard design, we can get that done just as quickly. This creates significant value for both us and our customers.”

Another example where BetaPack has supported UPG in developing their design is with the fat balls produced at their factory in Hasselager.

“The fat balls used to be packed in a transparent plastic bucket with a label, but many customers requested the option to buy the plastic bucket once and then purchase the fat balls separately. Here, BetaPack helped us create an attractive full-print design for the cardboard box in which the fat balls are now packed. BetaPack not only helps us with beautiful and innovative designs but also with creating greener solutions” concludes Jacob Gram Stjernholm.
